What are You Keeping from the World by Not Writing Your Book?
– You Are Encouraged to Take Action NOW! –
What brought you to coaching?
What led you to the source of your own healing?
I’m going to bet at least one book played a big role. For me that book was Marianne Williamson’s A Return to Love. From Marianne I found Louise Hay, Wayne Dyer, Caroline Myss, Iyanla, Martha Beck, Brooke Castillo, Byron Katie, and so many others.
I bet we have a lot of the same books on our shelves and I want YOUR book to be the next to enlighten me.I find that most Life Coaches have a dozen or more book ideas floating around in their heads, but often they are more ideas than accomplishments. That’s where I come in. I help coaches implement their brilliance so they can change the world with their words.
Do you have a message you feel compelled to share with the world?
Are you ready to be seen and play big with the universe?
Do you want to stand on your porch and hold a book with your name on it?
Then I’ve got a program for you…
With my If I’m So Smart, Why Can’t I Write a Book? program, you will:
Do you know the best way to make a permanent and lasting difference in the lives of thousands, maybe even millions of people?
Write a book!
That’s right. WRITE A BOOK!
Think about it.
I’ve found the best place for many coaches to start is by writing a book that targets their ideal coaching prospect and actually gives away all of their best tools. In many ways it seems counterintuitive, but I’ve found the more you give away, the more clients you get. People end up paying to have you customize the tools specifically for them and to hold them accountable.Writing a book not only helps you build your business and get more coaching clients, it will also help you get:
√ Increased credibility
√ Free publicity
√ More speaking engagements
√ Instant recognition as an expert
√ Differentiation from the competition
√ And so much more.
The World Deserves to Hear Your Message
I used to help software companies get their marketing material written, published, and promoted and then I read this quote from Marianne Williamson:
“Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.”
After reading that (and after about 1,000 hours of coaching with Super Coach Brooke Castillo), I knew life was too short to be spending it promoting backup software or contact management databases. I needed to join the Peace Army and get on with the business of changing the world. And so do you.
For me, playing big means attracting coaches with a message of hope and healing who are ready to write a book that will have a lasting impact on the planet. Having spent so much time trapped in deep pain, shame, and blame, books were my salvation—the key to my journey to freedom. (By the way, it’s that journey after which my publishing company is named.)
When I first stepped into the world of books, I was a senior in college. I majored in journalism at The George Washington University and was recommended by one of my professors to work for a world-class investigative journalist, David Wise, who had over a dozen books to his credit, including a #1 New York Times bestseller. During my tenure with him, I helped him research and edit two books, one long-form Vanity Fair article, and many smaller pieces. I helped organize and manage his book tour, publicity, and other book marketing. In my time with him, I got to see how the big-time publishing houses and publicists conceive of book ideas, research, write, edit, fact-check, produce, and promote books.
While working with David Wise, I was simultaneously consulting for major newspapers like USA Today and The Washington Post on how to convert their newspapers to the Internet. I was a desk jockey at a local newspaper chain called the Montgomery Gazette. And I was the editor of The World Almanac of US Politics with a staff of 10 researchers on Capitol Hill. In my spare time, I helped a Clinton White House staffer write and edit his memoir, Aboard Airforce One (Fifthian Press), and I co-wrote, researched, and edited over a dozen books with Pulitzer Prize runner-up and nationally syndicated columnist Robert Wagman.
After getting a Master’s degree in Media Affairs from The George Washington University and a PhD in Communications from The European Graduate School in Switzerland, I began writing books, special reports, website content, brochures, blogs, and other content for high-tech companies. Believe it or not, I am incredibly proud of my work on The Definitive Guide to Windows Application and Server Backup 2.0!
I’m the author of From Medea to Media: Live Performance as a Vehicle for Social Change (Atropos Press, 2009); and I’m thrilled to be working on my second book, If I’m So Smart, Why Can’t I Write a Book, which will help coaches get out of their own way and get their books written, published, and out in the world! As a part of this program, you’ll get a free copy when it’s done.
Writing a book is like having a baby. There’s NEVER a “good” time. You just have to bite the bullet!
I know from working with struggling coaches that you’ve got great ideas for books—and yet they aren’t getting done. I hear all the swooning about other coaches who have finished a book (or two, or more) and all the “compare and despair” that goes with it. But the simple reason more coaches haven’t finished their books has nothing to do with lack of ideas, or writing talent, or even time (though that’s a handy excuse.) The reason coaches aren’t writing their book is they don’t commit.
I’m going to say that again because I’m betting you skimmed over that.
THE REASON YOUR BOOK IS NOT WRITTEN IS THAT YOU HAVEN’T MADE A REAL COMMITMENT TO WRITE IT.
Of course, you want to write it, but wanting is not enough! You need to have a system to get feedback from potential readers, settle on a topic, build an outline, complete a first draft, hire an editor, make the changes, develop a book proposal, pitch agents, find a publisher, and market your completed book. No wonder you haven’t done it—it’s a big project and it’s incredibly hard to do alone! It’s like trying to lose 100 pounds in one go.
With a project this big, it’s difficult to stay out of your own way. The most successful authors have writing coaches, a well-vetted plan, and a means of staying accountable. For many the advance money from the publisher provides great accountability—who wants to pay back a $10,000 or $20,000 advance? But what if you are self-publishing or working with an author-funded publisher; how do you stay accountable then?
Here are the top 5 roadblocks my clients run into and how my program helps them stay focused on completing the marathon of writing a book:
Do You Know What’s Really Stopping You?
Is it that you think you don’t have the time? Or that you don’t know where to start? Some people are afraid they just won’t do it right—is that you? Or are you just overwhelmed by the amount of work it will take? Or have you written a few chapters and then find that the writing wouldn’t come anymore?
I have heard all of these reasons from my clients, but I tell them all not to give up. I let them know I believe in them and the book idea, and I give them simple strategies to keep moving forward one turtle step at a time without getting discouraged.
Here’s why I don’t think you should give up either:
If you found this page it’s because you are a pretty amazing person. You are someone committed to changing the world and to helping people find joy. If you are on this page, I’m afraid, you’ve experienced more than your fair share of pain and you have found the path out of the woods.
Oh, the journey is not complete of course, and sometimes you find yourself back in the forest, but it takes less and less time to find your way out now. You’ve got the map — the map you searched for and struggled to find for so long. And how did you find it? I’m going to bet at least part of what helped you find your way out of the woods was a book—a book written by someone like you.
How do I know? Because the universe is a mirror, of course!
So as someone who spent countless Friday nights crouched on the floor of the Barnes and Noble self-help section looking for a way to stop the pain in my own life, I’m begging you to push your limiting beliefs aside and commit yourself to doing the work you were meant to do.
If you don’t start or restart your book TODAY, chances are it’ll never be written at all. The chance to change someone’s life….gone. The dream of a lifetime…unfulfilled.
Don’t let that be your future…make a commitment today —you’ll be making a difference in your life and the lives of your readers.
Why this program stands out
It won’t surprise you to learn there are other book coaches out there. So why is my program different?
Well first, this is the only program exclusively for Life Coaches. I am not working with other experts or business people on their books so I don’t need to be an expert in what makes an accounting book successful or a non-profit book raise money. I know how to make a coach’s book stand out and attract clients for his or her practice, events, or products.
Second, this is the only book coaching program that includes my unique Social Publishing platform. Social Publishing is a way to use your book development process to get feedback to make sure you’ve got a winning book before you publish it, and to build your platform and your list as you go. Plus, by the time your book goes to press, you’ll have created a companion product which you can start selling before your book is available.
Finally, when you sign up for the program and follow the steps, you are guaranteed to get your book published and live on Amazon.com or, if you choose, receive a book proposal to shop to agents.
You’ll Get Regular Interaction + Customized Accountability
13 one-on-one calls via phone or skype Monthly Editing Assignments Unlimited Email Coaching
Think of What You’ll Accomplish with 1 Year of Private Email Coaching About YOUR Book
Of course, there are books out there that teach you how to write a book, but none that are specifically focused on the unique needs of Life Coaches. Plus, with this program, you get tons of personal hand-holding from me. I’ve helped get dozens of books written (including my own) so I’ll make sure you have the information you need to make this project a success.
You’ll set the pace for the program and it will include:
- Three 60-minute book strategy sessions — During these sessions, we will determine the time-frame to complete the book, and create an action plan and writing schedule. We’ll look at your overall market position and author strategy and make recommendations for where to focus your attention in the training segments. We’ll also check in with your mindset, uncover limiting beliefs, and, if needed, set intentions to remove internal blocks to success. ($750 value)
- Ten 90-minute content development calls — Once we’ve worked together to complete the outline and gather all the content and ideas we want to include in the book, I help you defeat the blank page by interviewing you on your topic. Your responses will be transcribed and will form the basis of the first draft of each chapter. We’ll also spend time on the call reviewing your draft editing as well as your business strategy to connect with your audience as you write. ($4,250 value)
- One year of unlimited email coaching so you are never alone on this road. It’s like having a personal trainer for your book project. ($9,000 value)
- A website for your book and companion social media profiles. ($2,500 value)
- Full access to the Social Publishing Platform and crowd-sourced edits — Once you complete a chapter you will have the option to make it available on the social publishing platform, including book cover design, interior design, and much more. ($1,500 value)
- Your choice between having your book published by Journey Grrrl Publishing and distributed through Amazon (print) and also for Kindle and iBook or having Journey Grrrl Publishing prepare a book proposal for you to shop to agents. ($5,000 value)
- Unlimited Access to all live calls, group coaching, and materials for the Media School for Coaches ($167 value)
- Copies of my library of monthly calls, including information on how to hire and manage a virtual assistant, how to use social media to get leads, how to select a publisher, how to get local and national publicity for your book and practice, interviews with experts and best-selling authors, and much, much more.
A Book is a Cornerstone; but I’ll also Help You Build The Building
My goal is to help you write your book while building your list and your business. So in addition to your book, here’s what you can expect to get from the program:
That’s a ton of value from a single program.
You May Spread Your Tuition Over 12 Months or Save Over $2,000 by Making a Single Payment
As you can see in the table above, the total value of the program is $23,167, but I really do want to help people who are on a mission—not just a bunch of rich folks. So the program doesn’t cost $25,000 or $20,000, or even $15,000. Instead I’ve set up 2 options to work with your budget.
I should also mention that I’m not an accountant, but it’s likely that this expense would be tax-deductible for you.
This is not a cheap program, but it the type of investment in yourself that is going to move you into a different stratosphere.
Think about it…how else can you be 100% sure your book will be completed and published and that it will be done right? Where else can you be sure to learn the proven strategies, techniques, and systems to create effective books for coaches who are ready to create a legacy of change like Marianne Williamson or Byron Katie?
Let me be clear, this program is not about talking or planning. We are actually going to write your book together. I know you have paid for many programs where you get deluged with information and you have to figure out how to apply that information to your business. Please understand, this program is not like that!
In this program, you will only get information that is specific to you and we will implement it together. It’s like having a right-hand man, a virtual assistant, a coach, and a book publisher all working on your project to ensure its success.
And besides, even if you decide to take really, really, small turtle steps, I’ll show you how to create programs or leverage opportunities to make sure you can repay your tuition investment even before your book is complete. Believe me, selling $10K of product online will be a cinch by the time I’m done with you.
Most coaches only sell 250 books. (But not if they are in my program!)
You know why? Most coaches don’t invest in themselves and in their marketing education and capabilities. They are like people who want to become attorneys and make a million dollars a year as a Partner, but who are unwilling to go to Law School or do a Summer Associateship.
Coaches like that do their book on their own and, because they didn’t have help, they make all the typical mistakes inexperienced authors make that keep them from selling a lot of books or using their book to propel their business to the next level.
I’ve worked with enough best-selling authors to know they aren’t like that. And I know you aren’t like that. You are different than most coaches because, if you’ve read this far, I know you really want to leave a legacy. I know the pain you have experienced was sent to you so you could use it to teach others.
Do you know Byron Katie’s story?
In 1986, Katie (as she is called) was depressed, eating too much, and fighting with her husband and children. She weighed 200 pounds and had entered a depression so deep that she spent most of her time in her bedroom watching television. As she tells the story, she went to a halfway house for women with eating disorders and hit bottom. There, on the floor of an attic bedroom, she had the kind of spiritual awakening that takes Buddhist monks years of fasting and meditating to achieve.
Since that awakening, Byron Katie has founded The School for The Work, where her approach to “Loving What Is” and accepting reality has saved thousands of lives and changed millions.
How do I know her story? How do you know it? (Because I’m guessing you already knew it, am I right?)
I know her story because I am one of the millions of people whose life she has changed because she wrote a book.
Will you change millions of people’s lives? Of course, no one can guarantee that, but I know if you have had an experience with depression, chronic pain, an eating disorder, alcoholism, addiction, the loss of a child, cancer or another serious physical illness, betrayal, joblessness, loneliness, obesity, rejection, or abuse, you have learned some important lessons that you need to share. It’s your life’s work to share how you overcame these obstacles.
Remember the authors I talked about earlier who inspire me? Those authors all invested in themselves to build the platform they needed to make a major impact on the world. And now it’s your turn.
What does completing a book mean to you?
A way to put all your most important lessons in one place? More credibility? A product to offer your clients? Self-satisfaction? A chance to really change the world and make your mark?
In this program you will learn how to defeat the blank page by creating a book idea to reach your ideal client and then using tools to get organized and stay on track to complete your book.
In the past, I’ve only been able to work with established coaches with large lists—but this program is so customized that it works for any coach, no matter where you are, and it’s guaranteed to get you to the next level.
It might sound crazy, I know, but it’s actually possible to write a book you love, figure out your message, get to know your tribe, and repurpose content from your book for social media and newsletters WITHOUT spending more than an hour or two per week with my unique method.
I have designed this program based on absolutely everything I’ve learned in 17 years of helping authors write, publish, and promote their books. Whether you have already written a book or you are just at the beginning of making your dream come true, I’d be honored to walk with you on your journey.
Love & Light,
